Mumbai Marina

With the number or leisure yachts growing every year Mumbai has an evident requirement for its first Marina, with all its amenities. The east water front of the island city with over 6.8 Sq.Km of underutilized dock land with three existing enclosed wet docks - Princess Docks, Victoria Docks and Indira Dock - would be the ideal place for it. With minimum efforts, these docks could be redesigned to harbor leisure boats and other water sport activity. These kind of activities lend themselves to co-exist with urban development and public space, for which we provided various designs.

Each design envisions residential and commercial development, placed in public spaces surrounding a marina. The connectivity to the east coast of the city would allow the public to enjoy more than 50% of its shore. The design details the water front such that multiple connections can be made with the water, such as from a public park, local roads, for pedestrians from sidewalks and stepped plaza’s to create open air amphitheatre.

The master plans comprehend massing studies to identify desired density levels, ratio of residential and commercial spaces, shading patterns for the urban structure, degrees of privacy in the public spaces and the required amenities, parking, roads and public transport.

For all three docks the proposals were presented to various international and local investors to enclose them in our vision for the future of water sport activity in Mumbai which could be made viable by proposing a mixed use master plan.
